Weekly pool service has a reputation problem in South Florida, and it's earned. Plenty of routes are run as a five-minute stop: toss in some chlorine tabs, glance at the water, leave. The pool looks fine for a while, then slowly stops looking fine — and nobody can say exactly when it went wrong.
A real weekly visit covers eight things. First, the surface gets skimmed — leaves, insects, and floating debris pulled out before they sink and start decomposing, because organic debris on the floor is what drives chlorine demand through the roof.
Second, brushing. Walls, steps, the waterline, and every accessible surface. This is the single most-skipped task on a bad route, and it's the one that prevents algae from getting a foothold in the first place. Algae attaches before it blooms; brushing is what stops it.
Third, vacuuming the floor as needed. Fourth, cleaning out the skimmer baskets and the pump basket — a full pump basket starves your pump of water and can burn out a motor that would otherwise have lasted years.
Fifth, checking and adjusting the water level, which matters more than people think: too low and the skimmer sucks air into the pump, too high and skimming stops working altogether. Sixth, testing the water properly. Seventh, balancing it — chlorine, pH, alkalinity, and stabilizer, dosed to what the test actually says.
Eighth, and the one that saves customers the most money: a visual inspection of the equipment. A technician who is looking at the pump, filter, and plumbing every single week catches a small leak, a failing seal, or a rising filter pressure long before it becomes a replacement.
